How you define health & happiness is highly individualized and based on your core values and long term vision for your life. I view health  from a holistic perspective. I believe good health stems from having good physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. In essence this means being content with life, having purpose and meaning,  enough energy to accomplish your personal and professional goals, possessing a high level of positive emotions, the financial means to provide for your needs and the experience of supportive and loving relationships.

This definition is in line with how the World Health Organization (WHO) defines health, "a state of of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."  As a healthcare provider I have spent years caring for people to promote health, prevent disease and facilitate healing. My happiness comes from seeing my patient's health and hope restored, their personal growth & development, and success in every aspect of their lives. Eight Points of Health & Happiness


How you eat, and what you eat- having a healthy dietary pattern is key to weight management and disease prevention. Access to healthy foods and the ability and knowledge to prepare meals are all important to good health.

Physical Activity/Relaxation

Regular physical activity reduce stress and pain, improves mood and helps control weight and prevent disease. Balance, flexibility, endurance and strength, as well as rest and relaxation, are key to good health.


Environment includes home, work, neighborhood and nature. This means a safe and comfortable home and neighborhood, a workplace that meets your needs, a community where you have access to to transportation, and food.

Conventional Medical Care

Access to good healthcare and creating and maintaining a healthcare team. This may be a primary care provider and a group of specialist including health coaches and educators. Being able to communicate your needs is essential in receiving  good healthcare.


Meditation and mindful awareness help reduce stress, foster a greater mind-body connection and improves the ability to be well with or without chronic disease. It changes the way the brain works, improving concentration, memory, awareness, emotional health, immune function, and sleep.

Complementary Care

Complementary care can complement conventional care and include massage therapy, aromatherapy, chiropractic care and practices like yoga, Tai Chi, qi gong. Relaxation techniques include breathing exercises, guided imagery, and muscle relaxation.


Friends, family, colleagues and community are all central to our wellbeing. It is important to have supportive friends and family and a community where we feel safe and have access to help when we need it.

Meaningful Work

Meaningful work includes work in and outside the home, volunteerism, entrepreneurship and career transitions. Having work that meets your financial, intellectual and creative needs fosters good health.

Health & Happiness Coaching Program

  • Two, 50 minute  coaching calls or video conferencing sessions each month for three months with Dr. Duran:

  • The coaching program will be designed according to your needs and can cover any topic that is relevant to your health and happiness.

  • Develop a vision for your health and wellness plan, set small weekly goals, and be kept accountable by your health coach.

  • Weekly email check-in's with your coach to help keep you motivated and accountable on your journey to optimal health.

  • Access to Healthy Yields private community to gain support from your coach and peers in between coaching sessions.


Mindful Eating Coaching Program

for Diabetes & Pre-diabetes

  • Two, 50 minute  coaching calls or video conference sessions each month for three months with Dr. Duran:

  • The coaching program will follow the format of the book: Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabetes: A Mindful Eating Program for Thriving with Prediabetes or Diabetes (Second edition)

    • Conscious decision making using the Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Cycle

    • Education about diabetes self-management and preventing the associated complications

      Nutrition from a nonrestrictive, all-foods-fit perspective

    • Physical activity that is enjoyable and can be integrated into daily life

      Access to Healthy Yields private community to gain support from coach and peers in between sessions.

  • Tools and handouts to help you manage your diabetes long-term.
